Dotted around the East Anglian countryside, you can find pill boxes. Concrete structures built to defend the country in the case of invasion during World War 2. They have always held a fascination for me.
One April afternoon, I was cooking the Sunday Roast but as the dark clouds approached I was getting fidgety, I wanted to get down to The Naze near Walton on a friends recommendation. I rushed my food down and set off. On my arrival I was surrounded by dark clouds and the wind was really blowing. Imagine my delight when I found these two pill boxes lying on the beach under this awesome sky.
Fallen, but still protecting our coast while even the ground they were built upon has long collapsed into the sea. |
